This dramedy follows a biracial writer struggling to define the “Black Experience,” as he revisits stories and people from his past, and the varying degrees of racism he experienced as a brown kid raised in a white world. (Based on my own journey trying to do the same damn thing.)

Derek, a 30-something guy who lives with his mom, is shocked to find out one day that the new guy his mom has been dating (and is now engaged to) is his high school rival, Gary. Each episode follows Derek as he fights against his new family situation, while also accidentally falling into stereotypical (and extremely uncomfortable) father-son moments with Gary, his new “dad.”
